Why it is on this rack
Blue Label is the leader spool for water with teeth in it. The double-structure fluorocarbon is built for abrasion resistance, which is exactly what a leader has to survive around oyster rock, bridge pilings, jetty stone and the shell bottom that red drum, flounder and sheepshead live in. It sinks fast, so a bait gets down and stays in the zone instead of planing behind the sinker. Twenty-five yards on the spool, in the eight- to forty-pound tests the inshore and surf fishing here calls for.
How to fish it here
Use it as the last couple of feet of a surf or bottom rig, above a circle hook on a fish-finder, or as the tippet on an inshore jig. The fast sink and low stretch keep you in touch with the bottom on a slow flounder drag and put the hook home on a drum that turns for the pilings. Retie the leader after every fish that touches stone or shell. Carry a spool in the bag and retie whenever the last foot of leader feels rough, especially after a fish has rubbed it across shell or timber.
