The Senko is the stickbait that changed soft plastics, and it earns its place on an OBX rack through the freshwater side of the coast as much as the salt. On the bass ponds and borrow ditches behind the dunes, and in the sound creeks that hold a mixed bag, its fall with no input from the angler is what makes it forgiving in wind and current. Ten to a pack, five inches of salt-impregnated plastic that shimmies whether you help it or not.
Rig it wacky through the middle or Texas-style, and cast it at cover without weight. Let it fall on a semi-slack line and watch for the line to move; most takes come on the drop. Speckled trout will pick it up around the same marsh edges when you fish it slower. It is the bait to tie on when the bite is finicky and you want something that fishes itself. It skips under docks and overhanging brush, which is worth knowing when the fish are tucked tight and you cannot reach them with anything weighted.
