Why it is on this rack
The Swimmin' Trout Trick is the search half of a trout box. When there is water to cover and no sign of where the fish are sitting, a paddletail you can cast and wind is how you find them, and this one is built to swim rather than to sit. The 3.5-inch body matches the shrimp and small baitfish that speckled trout, puppy drum and bluefish are feeding on around the sound flats, marsh edges and inlet mouths. Six to a pack, and ElaZtech rubber means one bait survives the tap-tap of schoolie trout long enough to earn its place in the box.
How to fish it here
Rig it on a quarter- to three-eighths-ounce jig head, or a weighted swimbait hook, and fish it on a steady retrieve just off the bottom, letting the curved tail do the work. Wind it faster when the trout are keyed up, crawl it when the water is cold. It doubles as a trailer behind a bucktail for bluefish tearing through bait in the surf, and a red drum working a shallow flat will take it on the fall.
